sfgirlbybay is starting a new 'blog it forward,' this time with a new 'visual bookmarking' site called Pinterest. A whole lot of bloggers signed up to play along, myself included, because I love sfgirlbybay!
Above is a screen capture of my first stab at a Pinterest board. Oh look, lots of green and blue. Surprise!
I've just started playing with the site, which seems to be in its start-up phase, as you need to be 'invited' to join. (If you go to the Pinterest site you can add your name to the waiting list.) You make pin-up boards with any theme you like and use a 'Pin It' button on your toolbar to add photos from any site. So far it has worked like a charm. When you click the Pin It button, a smaller window opens showing you the various images on the web page/shop page/blog and you choose the one you had in mind. You can give it a title and notes, and after it is 'pinned' you can click on it to go back to the original post. I think it will be wonderful for project planning. I could see using this to keep images and shopping sources easily sorted - when we finally renovate the kitchen, for example. It's more sophisticated than Kaboodle or Wishpot because it isn't as shopping-oriented and you can see all your 'pins' next to each other rather than in a list. Much more like a real inspiration board. There's also a social aspect, as you can 'follow' pin boards you like or people whose work you admire...
At any rate, Pin It Forward (is it a game? a meme? what do you call these things?) will start May 24. Bloggers will be posting their interpretation of "What Home Means to Me" one after another, with links to their Pinterest boards and to each others' posts. I'm new at this, and hope I get all the linky stuff right...
My turn will be on June 7. Please stand by...
