Back Beach, July 5, 2010

A friend told me about a beautiful little beach on the other side of the island. "At low tide, there's lots of sand dollars. All over the place!" she said, so after the 4th of July traffic thinned out, my husband and I went over to check it out. I wasn't in the mood to pick up a lot. Sometimes I want to pick up everything I see, and other times I'm happy just to look at it lying on the beach. This was a day when the mass of "things I already have at home" was pressing on me more than usual, so I just picked up a few really interesting things. I only found one sand dollar, but for that day, one was enough. With a smaller collection, I can get in closer with the camera, too. The texture of the sand dollar and the speckled granite would be lost in a larger composition. Some days, simple is refreshing.

  2. Wow, thank you! You just made my evening.

And Guam? My family lived there for a couple of years when I was a toddler. My sister was born there! I don't remember much, I'm afraid, but I'd love to photograph some of your finds! I'll email you.
